From: Peter (the girls father)
Tora was born a bit early (4.5 lbs) in Portland, OR three days after Mt St Helens blew her top. Maybe that had something to do with it. ;-]
So I spent several days driving into Portland thru the ash to see Tora and her mom. It was pretty spooky - almost no other cars,
gray ash swirling around - very post-apocalypse.
I carried extra air filters and gallons of water to pour on the windshield and even so, I was certain that I was ruining our brand new car.
Both the baby and the Honda seemed to thrive and grew up together. Tora started driving the Civic at 16 and gradually it became her car.
It now has 150 k or more miles. The interior is pretty shot and the paint job is pretty thin on the top & hood. The engine and auto transmission have never been opened up - it's one tough little critter.
We keep it reliable and safe for her - but driving 40 miles into Portland (to see friends) is as far as it goes now. I'm afraid today's freeway speeds would be the end of the car (55 mph was ok with it).
That's about it... she needs a car to actually travel in and I would hate to see her give up that car. But the day will come, I guess. Rather than see it go to the crusher, I'll probably donate it to some charity - maybe they'll send it to the crusher, but it will at least have done one last Good Thing. |
